Around the Town with Keri Garcia: Farmers Markets | Video
As a realtor, I’m not just helping my clients find the perfect home; I’m helping them settle into a community where they will create memories. My video series, "Around the Town," showcases the incredible community of Fort Wayne.
In my last video, I took you to the cheering crowds of the Tin Caps stadium. In this episode of "Around the Town," we’ll be exploring the local farmers markets of Fort Wayne. Let’s check out two of my favorites: the first is located at Salomon Farm Park, and the other is downtown at Barr Street, the YLNI Farmer’s Market, hosted by the Young Leaders of Northeast Indiana.
Summer means fresh, and locally-grown fruits and veggies are readily available to purchase from June to September. During these months, Salomon Farm Park, known for its classic red Barn, transforms itself into a wonderful farmers market every Wednesday from 4-7 pm.
Salomon Farmers Market prides itself on its top-notch vendors, whose sustainable and organic fruits, vegetables, and herbs are grown within a 75 mile radius of Fort Wayne. Locals can also buy delicious baked goods, maple syrup, honey, homemade crafts, and participate in family friendly activities. Feel free to ask vendors for tips about starting your own home garden, and even say hello to some of the animals that live on the farm. While you’re here, make sure to explore the park’s beautiful grounds, extending over 170 acres.
On Saturdays from 9-1 pm, the Fort Wayne community also gets to enjoy the Young Leaders of Northeast Indiana Farmers Market, also known as the Barr Street Market. Located in the heart of downtown Fort Wayne, the Barr Street Market gets around 1,000 visitors every week who gather for the local, producer-only vendors selling fruits, veggies, plants, meats, baked goods, and handmade crafts. The Barr Street Market also offers ample opportunities for family-fun activities, chances to see local bands perform, and grab a bite to eat at one of the several food trucks lining Fort Wayne’s streets.
The Salomon Farmers Market and Barr Street Market are just two examples of the countless, exceptional cultural and shopping experiences Fort Wayne has to offer. To see more, be sure to tune in to the next episode of "Around the Town" — until then, happy shopping!
